THE ROCKS

“Nestled in the heart of The Rocks by the very cliff face that gave name to the area, this little Italian trattoria offers the pleasures of regional cooking while its courtyards, private rooms and bar provide flashes of Italy and the Mediterranean. Food options including pizzas, homemade pastas, veal and seafood are cooked fresh to order while talented musicians entertain you.”www.therocks.com

THE ROCKS, SYDNEY

The History

The Rocks is the very place where everything started. The vibrant and magical atmosphere that the city of Sydney has today, it all started back in the 18th and 19th centuries at the Rocks.

The land of the Rocks was traditionally owned by the Gadigal people. There were total of 19 clans before the European settlement in Australia. The early convicts who were transported to the Australia were sent as outdoor convicts having no bound prisons. The first gaol was built in later where the Four Seasons Hotel stands now. The Gadigal people survived the European influence and their diseases and continued to live there adapting with the change in times.

The historic contributions by early civilization and the traditional owners to the boom of trade in the term of General Macquarie, The Rocks has been gradually shaped into what it is today. The same elegant beauty like the old times that captivates every living soul and the proud history that allures everyone, Rocks is not just a place in the city but it is the representative of everything the city has ever been or will be.

From right beside the very cliff that gave this place the name as The Rocks, we welcome you to enjoy our food in the sandstone courtyard alongside the giant rocky walls. There is no better place to start exploring the history of the magnificent ‘Rocks’.
